IDrive BMR WinRE recovery media and its uses
IDrive BMR Windows Recovery Media (WinRE) is a recovery environment used to boot up a computer on which bare-metal restore needs to be initiated. You can build a WinRE recovery media for immediate or future use.
You can use the IDrive BMR WinRE recovery media to:
- Perform bare-metal restore of the data backups stored in the IDrive BMR device.
- Repair Windows OS booting issues during bare-metal restore and virtualization, using the in-built Windows tools.
Note:
- Due to Microsoft's license restrictions, IDrive BMR does not provide pre-built WinRE ISO. However, the IDrive BMR Recovery Builder application is provided for hassle-free recovery media creation.
- It is recommended to build the recovery media immediately after receiving the IDrive BMR device to enable seamless bare-metal recovery.
- The ISO recovery media is backward-compatible. Therefore, it is recommended to use the latest Windows OS for creating the recovery media.
Requirements for bare-metal restore
The following are the requirements for performing a bare-metal restore:
- USB drive with a minimum of 4 GB storage — to create USB recovery media.
- Ensure the drives on your target computer are healthy (run SMART checks on the drives if necessary).
- The target computer must be bootable from a USB storage device.
- The IDrive BMR device and the target computer should be within the same LAN.
- The target computer should have a wired network connection to the LAN (DHCP is recommended).
- If the target computer has hardware RAID, it should be configured before initiating the restore process.
- For optimal performance during bare-metal restore, stop any ongoing backup operation.
